Are You Sensitive?

Most of my life, I’ve been known as being sensitive.

“Don’t tell her that; she’s sensitive.”

“Oh you know, she’s just sensitive.”

“Girl, you’re so sensitive.”

Eye roll. 🙄 The thing about it is they were so right.

I would cry about everything, at least it seemed. Anything involving someone being mistreated, getting their feelings hurt, or having to say goodbye, etc.—here come the water works.  As time progressed and I matured 😉, tears were shed at kindness and sentimental things.

Although I’ve toughened up a little bit…my family still pokes fun at me. Maybe even to the point of seeing who would be correct in guessing when and about what I will cry.🙃

I find myself thinking: Man, buck up, girl! Why do you have to be so sensitive?

Despite my natural proclivities to sensitivity, I am learning that there are benefits to being sensitive, spiritually at least. When we are sensitive to Holy Spirit, first and foremost, we learn so much of His nature. We become sensitive to His will. We become sensitive to other people’s feelings. We become sensitive to the Word of truth.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 KJV)

Now you know I like to talk about the rhema (uttered) word and the logos (written) word.⚔️ When we spend time in the written Word, we become sensitive to how God speaks so much so that it becomes rhema—as if God is speaking right to us. Right where we are. We have to be sure to stay sensitive so we don’t miss it, though.

When we allow ourselves to be sensitive to the things of God, we are actually discerning what the Lord wants to reveal to us (or others even). We have to be sensitive to His direction and correction. This is how we mature in the faith. 💪

Sensitivity to His presence, for me, often produces tears (go figure! 😏). Now, it doesn’t bother me as much. When I think about His goodness and all He is to me, how could I not cry??

However your spiritual sensitivity comes through, just know that it certainly has its merits. 🙌
